Overview
Ten riding days shaped by mountain landscapes and a relaxed rural rhythm.
The 12-day itinerary combines ten days of riding with time for meals, guesthouse stays and local visits. Exact routes and timings may vary depending on weather, trail conditions and horse welfare.
The tour is intended for riders who can independently control a horse at walk, trot and canter, remain balanced over uneven ground and spend several hours in the saddle on consecutive days.
Highlights
- Ride through open grassland, mountain valleys and forest paths.
- Travel in a small guided group.
- Stay in selected rural guesthouses.
- Enjoy regional meals and local hospitality.
- Visit traditional villages and historic rural landscapes.
- Receive clear pre-arrival guidance.
How the journey unfolds
The beginning and end of the journey follow a clear structure, while the riding days in between remain deliberately flexible. Routes, overnight stops and the order of activities may change according to weather, trail conditions, the group and horse welfare.
Day 0 — Arrival and welcome
Arrival transfer during the agreed window, check-in, welcome meal and a practical briefing covering the horses, equipment and journey ahead. Depending on arrival time, there may also be a visit to the farm.
Day 1 — Horse allocation and first trail
Meet the horses, complete a short assessment ride and continue onto a half-day route through the nearby countryside. This first ride gives both rider and guide time to confirm that the horse allocation is suitable before the longer days ahead.
Days 2–10 — Riding through the Apuseni Mountains
These days form the heart of the journey. Riding may take us across open hills and pasture, village and farm tracks, forest paths, valleys, higher ridges and quieter mountain settlements.
Most are full riding days, with regular breaks and a longer stop around lunchtime. Lunch may be a picnic or taken in a village, depending on the route, and luggage is transferred between selected overnight stays where required.
One day may be used for a shorter ride, rest or local visit, depending on weather, horse welfare and the rhythm of the group. The exact sequence is intentionally flexible rather than tied to a fixed daily route.
Day 11 — Final full riding day
A final full day in the saddle, bringing together the landscapes and terrain encountered during the journey, followed by a relaxed farewell dinner with the group.
Day 12 — Departure
Breakfast, check-out and departure transfer during the agreed window.
Riding level
“Intermediate” can mean different things in different countries. Guests should be comfortable with all of the following:
- Mounting and dismounting independently.
- Controlling a horse in open country.
- Riding at walk, rising trot and canter.
- Maintaining balance on slopes and uneven ground.
- Following guide instructions within a group.
- Spending approximately four to six hours in the saddle.
Horses and equipment
Horse allocation is based on riding experience, confidence, height, weight and preferred temperament. Our herd includes crossbred horses with Lipizzaner, Hucul and Nonius bloodlines, selected for their temperament and suitability for mountain riding. English-style saddles are provided, although riders are welcome to bring their own. The maximum rider weight is 120 kg, with rides limited to walking pace for riders weighing over 100 kg.

The standard is comfortable modern accommodation with clean rooms, dependable meals and double bed rooms with private bathroom arrangements, at a 2 stars level. Final guesthouses, single supplements and dietary options will be specified for each departure.
