Horses and riding
The right match matters more than impressive promises.
A successful riding holiday depends on honest self-assessment, suitable horses, sensible pacing and clear guide authority.

Expected ability
For the Signature Trail, riders should be comfortable at walk, trot and canter in open country, and able to ride for several hours on consecutive days.
Our horses
Our herd includes crossbred horses with Lipizzaner, Hucul and Nonius bloodlines. They are selected for their temperament, sure-footedness and suitability for long days over varied mountain terrain.
Horse allocation
Horse allocation takes into account riding experience, confidence, height, weight and preferred temperament. The maximum rider weight is 120 kg. The guide may change a horse assignment if this is considered safer or more appropriate for the rider, horse or group. English-style saddles are provided, although riders are welcome to bring their own.
Terrain and pace
Routes range from approximately 800 to 1,800 metres above sea level and may include grassland, farm tracks, forest paths, slopes, rocky ground, mud and road crossings. The pace depends on ground conditions, weather, traffic, group ability and horse welfare. For riders weighing over 100 kg, rides are limited to walking pace. A short break is taken approximately every hour, with a longer two-hour break around lunchtime for riders and horses to rest.
Safety and guide authority
Guests must follow the guide’s instructions at all times. Helmets are recommended for all riders and mandatory for beginners.
Waterproof hiking boots are recommended in preference to riding shoes. The mountain environment can be damp, particularly in the mornings and evenings, and grass and vegetation may remain wet even in otherwise good weather.
The sun can also be strong at altitude, so riders should bring suitable sun protection.
